FAQ

updated as of Mar 2024

  • Classroom Etiquette
Consumption of food and drinks (apart from plain water) in the classroom is strictly prohibited. Students who persistently misbehave, refuse to comply with class work or vandalise FGS, is susceptible to be expelled permanently from FGS. The cost of vandalisation is liable to be paid by the parents.
  • Will lessons still be conducted during public holidays?
Classes will continue on most public holidays to maintain your child’s continuity in learning. As your child only attends lessons once a week at our centre (per subject), we want to ensure that certain good habits and routines (e.g. completion of homework that’s due the next week) are not unduly disrupted. The exceptions are (i) Chinese New Year, (ii) National Day and (iii) Christmas. Based on our experience, a majority of students at our centre have family/ other commitments on these public holidays. Hence, the centre will not be holding classes on these public holidays. Make-up sessions or refund requests will not be entertained if your child has to miss a lesson on other public holidays. The exception is if there’s a religious, ethnic or cultural celebration that your child will be involved in e.g. for Deepavali or Hari Raya. In these cases, please contact the Principal to arrange for a make-up class.
  • Will lessons still be conducted during school holidays e.g. Children's Day?
Classes will continue on scheduled school holidays to maintain your child’s continuity in learning. As your child only attends lessons once a week at our centre (per subject), we should ensure that certain good habits and routines (e.g. completion of homework due the next week) are not unduly disrupted.
  • Will lessons still be conducted during school vacation e.g. June break?
Classes will continue during some school vacations, to maintain your child’s continuity in learning. As your child only attends lessons once a week at our centre (per subject), we should ensure that certain good habits and routines (e.g. completion of homework due the next week) are not unduly disrupted. While we recognise that many families will want to take overseas vacations, extended family time etc. during the school vacation periods, we seek your understanding that we will not be able to offer refunds or make-up classes for absences during the school vacation period when FGS classes are ongoing, in accordance with our make-up lesson policy.
  • What is the process for registration / enrolment?
You may walk into the centre anytime during our tutoring hours to register with our friendly Centre Managers, Shaun and Sharon. They will explain the available classes, and walk you through the registration process. We understand that some of you may be unable to walk into the centre during our tutoring hours due to your busy schedule. Please call or Whatsapp our number with your details – we might be able to onboard you through a call instead.
  • Are there registration fees or any other fees involved?
Apart from the regular class fees, a one-time non-refundable registration fee of S$30.00 per student will be charged for new enrolment. This registration fee helps us cover the cost of materials too. We’re happy to waive the registration fee for siblings who join the FGS family 😊 We also require a one (1) month deposit for new enrolment. This deposit will be refunded when the student terminates his/her classes with us, subject to a one month notice provided. This one month notice allows us to plan out any necessary changes to the class schedule, in fairness to other students. If the student wishes to discontinue the lesson with immediate effect, the deposit will be used to offset against the fee owed in the coming month.
  • There are no classes available for my child’s grade/level now – what should I do?
We are happy to customise a learning experience to meet your child’s needs. Please contact us via Whatsapp / phone call to discuss the options with our Centre Director.
  • How frequent are the payment cycles?
FGS operates on a four-weekly payment cycle. Each payment made covers for 4 classes. We have found that this method of payment gives students flexibility, while simplifying accounting. This also enables easy calculation of fees for students, especially those taking classes for multiple subjects.
  • Will parents be informed of the fees due for each payment cycle? When are fees due?
Parents will be informed via Whatsapp of the fees due at the start of the cycle (e.g. for the payment cycle for July, parents will be informed on 3-4 July). Fees are due on the 10th of each month (e.g. for the payment cycle for July, the fees are due on the 10th of July).
  • Where can I find the latest fees for your classes?
The latest fees can be found here.
  • What is your absentee policy?
As our centre follows a fixed curriculum, we encourage students to come for every week’s classes and, where possible, avoid missing lessons unnecessarily. This helps your child maximise his learning from week to week. With effect from 1 Apr 2024, only students who fall into the following categories will be eligible for a make-up session: Sickness or ill health. Parents will need to submit a doctor-certified MC. Ad-hoc school activities. Parents will need to submit documentation provided by the school. These make-up session will provide your child with the opportunity to catch up on any missed material and stay on track with their studies. Students can choose to participate in any of the sessions to make up for their missed class. Revision worksheets & homework will be given & students will complete their work under supervision. Every Friday make-up session: 6:00pm to 7:30pm Every Saturday make-up session: 11:00am to 12:30pm All other students who are absent from their classes and are unable to attend the make-up sessions will be provided with the worksheets, which will be marked upon submission the following week. In NO event shall the fees be refunded or pro-rated if the student is unable to attend for a make-up session.
  • What about extenuating circumstances (e.g. COVID-19, hospitalisation, overseas travel for urgent matters) etc.?
The past two years have not been easy – or predictable – for all of us. We understand that last-minute emergencies are inevitable. We’re happy to take these instances on a case-by-case basis. Do note that you may be requested to provide relevant documentation (e.g. medical certificates) as evidence of the relevant emergency.
  • Will I be able to collect the materials (e.g. worksheets) for the lessons that my child has missed?
Of course! You may drop by at our centre during our opening hours (e.g. our tutoring hours) to collect the materials. Alternatively, the materials can be conveniently passed to your child during the next lesson.
